In the meanwhile, please consider using buildroot-busybox-menuconfig for setting up your defaults, which right now needs a first run before you can call this target, it is a known limitation and we are working towards improving it. $ make buildroot-busybox-menuconfig It is possible for you to create your own defaults specifying your board variant, but as far as I can tell, it has not yet been documented.
