OK, I tried with the latest git. It's this version:

yaffs2-e2652ab458ab98ccac696fe20d00013468193f78.tar.gz

Applied your patch (had to clean up a line that wrapped around in email).

Nice, it works! I did several copy-and-remove tests, and it
successfully "rm -rf" the entire directory each time.
